■「My Sweet Dreams 【Visions】」

01 False of dawn

02 Who is B?U? について

『Who is B?U?』

03 UGLY (2022 Remake)

04.『N.O.I..S.E』について

07 Navsegda

『THE PAST』

『THE PAST』

Even if the core is a visual kei worldview, Madoi didn’t create MSDV just by listening to visual kei. The music is also a mixture of influences from ambient, electronic, and alternative genres.

■ Name / Part / Birthday / Hometown / Blood Type / Height / Favorite Food / Favorite Drink

Name: Madoi
Part: Vocals / Composer
Birthday: March 10
Hometown: Fukuoka
Favorite food: Ramen
Favorite drink: NOPE (I’ve been really into it lately)

■ Could you tell us a bit about the current music and live scene in Fukuoka?

I took a break from music for a while, so I’m not very familiar with the Fukuoka music scene these days. Compared to about ten years ago, when I was in an active visual kei band, it feels like there are a lot fewer bands in the scene now.

That said, the level of those who are active is really high, whether they’re playing original songs or covers. Watching them perform and listening to their music is very inspiring, and I learn a lot from them.

As I become more involved in the Fukuoka music scene again, I hope to release something that feels true to myself.

■ What made you start this visual kei project?

It started during the COVID period. I’ve always worked as a carer, and the restrictions on my job were extreme back then. Almost everything was locked down; even going outside was difficult. Around that time I took up DTM as a hobby. At first, I was just experimenting by making simple instrumental songs. Then I had an idea: what if I combined the visual kei atmosphere that I had always loved with electronic music? I uploaded a demo of my first single, ‘Tsuzuri (綴)’, to my X account, and it received an unexpectedly positive response. This made me realise that the sound had real potential, so I decided to properly launch the solo project.

■ Which artists have influenced you, and why?

In terms of visual kei, it would definitely be DIR EN GREY and Sukekiyo. The albums “VITIUM” and “INFINITUM” by Sukekiyo have had a particularly strong influence on my sound. The way Sukekiyo blends electronic elements with typical band sounds, coupled with that decadent and unique atmosphere, It really draws me into their world.

Outside of visual kei, I like artists such as Billie Eilish and Portishead. I’m particularly drawn to spatial and atmospheric sounds, so their music influences me too.

So, I don’t create my music solely from listening to visual kei. Even if MSDV is currently built around a visual kei worldview, it also carries influences from ambient, electronic and alternative music.

■ What does music mean to you?

Madoi: It’s a place for self-expression. Every artist is free to create their own little unique world.

■ Outside of music, what are you most into or what hobbies do you have?

Outside of music… what am I into, (laughs). Surprisingly, I like outdoor stuff. Fishing and BBQ especially.  I grew up in the countryside, so I’m quite active outdoors. I go trout fishing and sea fishing quite often. Once it cools down, my fishing friends and I are planning an overnight fishing trip with camping. I’m really looking forward to it.

■ “My Sweet Dreams 【Visions】” recently restarted. What made you decide to bring the solo project back?

While I was on hiatus, I was the vocalist in a “the GazettE” cover band in Fukuoka. Through this activity, I had the opportunity to talk with many musicians and by watching a lot of lives, little by little the feeling of “I kind of want to do MSDV again” started growing.

However, I still hadn’t reached the point of actually deciding to restart.

The real spark came on 11 July this year, when I went to watch the ‘Zeke Deux Kakeru × GERTENA Satsuki Birthday Couple‘ event. I had the chance to talk to the vocalist of MADARA on that day. Hearing his stories made me want to make music again. After watching their live performance, I thought, ‘They’re so cool,’ and ‘I want to make music again.’I really see Nagisa-san as a reliable senior now. We still talk and grab food together, etc. He’s also a huge Chiikawa fan, and since I love Chiikawa too, we’re like Chiikawa buddies (laughs).

Another big moment occurred at the same event. There was an acoustic duo named “MBJ” Cherumaru on guitar and Jun on vocals. Their energy in their singing and performance was incredible. They completely won me over. I only managed to say a quick hello and couldn’t tell them how much it meant. However, it was a really powerful stage. It made me want to try hard again. So thank you, truly.

All these encounters and experiences have rekindled my passion for MSDV!

■ What’s the origin and meaning behind the name “My Sweet Dreams【Visions】”?

Madoi: The naming process was pretty casual. I started with concepts like ‘a dreamlike world‘ or ‘a sweet world‘, then considered how to make it feel more Visual Kei. Somehow, I ended up with this.

Then I thought, ‘Whoa, that’s a long name!’ (Laughs). Nowadays, I usually just call it MSDV, or use the full name depending on the situation.

■ Your first mini-album “Soushitsu” is out. Can you talk about the key points of each song and what you wanted to convey?

01. “False of dawn”
This is an SE song from “Soushitsu -2022 Re-”. The first three songs are a continuation of the “UGLY PROJECT,” which was named when the 2nd single “UGLY” was released, and “False of dawn” is the beginning of that project.
Dawn” usually suggests hope or salvation, but adding “false” gives it the feeling that it looks like morning has come, yet nothing has actually changedyou’re still in the dark. Even though it’s just an SE. It sets the overall atmosphere for “Who is B?U?” and “UGLY.”

02. “Who is B?U?”

This song asks, ‘Who is beautiful? Who is ugly?’ But, the answer is not about our physical appearance. Rather, it explores the ugliness that exists inside people and the beauty that can be found within it.

Humans aren’t made up of only beautiful parts. We carry desire, jealousy and obsession, as well as other things we’d rather avoid. The song is based on the idea that even in a person’s ugliness, there is still something unique and beautiful. It acts as a prelude, setting out the core theme of the next song, ‘UGLY’.

03. “UGLY (2022 Remake)”

“UGLY” is about the ugliness that lives inside us.
Although it may appear to be pointing at someone and saying, ‘You’re ugly,‘ in reality, those words are also aimed at oneself. The more you pursue ideals, the more your desires, attachments and distortions come to the surface. This song depicts those human contradictions quite directly.

It also emphasises muddy tones and deep bass, and I created it with the feeling that it was a direct translation of something seeping out from within.

04. “N.O.I..S.E”

“N.O.I..S.E” is by far the most aggressive song on this album. It’s the only MSDV song to heavily utilize death growls and shouts. The theme strongly conveys anger towards human hypocrisy and deceit. Have you ever peeled back the layers of something beautiful to find an ugly monster underneath? This song is a direct expression of disgust and anger towards such things. While ‘UGLY‘ is directed towards inner ugliness, “N.O.I..S.E” is a little more outward-facing.

05. “Tsuzuri (綴)”

『Tuzuri』 is the song that marked the start of “My Sweet Dreams【Visions】”.

I had originally had no intention of adding vocals; I was just creating a fantastical, ambient-style instrumental song using DTM.. While working on that sound, the thought “What if I layered a V-kei-like worldview and lyrics on top of this?” became the trigger. As I continued producing, the song gradually evolved from an instrumental to a vocal piece, and so 『Tsuzuri』 was born. When I first completed the demo version, it was in a higher key, so I lowered it a bit to better suit my own range… haha.

At the time, I wasn’t using the name Madoi (惑) yet; I was making the song under a different project name. However, this song made me think, ‘Let’s try going in this direction,’ and that eventually led to My Sweet Dreams【Visions】.

The title “Tuzuri” carries the meaning of spelling out in words the feelings towards someone who can no longer be reached, or the emotions towards something that has been lost.

For me, this is a song that truly represents the origins of MSDV, with its themes of loss, floating and decadence. Rather than glorifying death, it’s a song about the desire to continue living after loss and the pain of facing that loss.

06. “Soushitsu ni Utau Tsumetai Ame”.

This ballad continues the story of Tsuzuri’s worldline. Written around the theme of how the world appears to someone after they have experienced loss, it focuses on the emptiness that remains afterwards.

Instead focusing on the intense emotions immediately following the loss, it center’s on the emptiness that remains afterwards, the feelings that don’t fade with time, and the memories and recollections of that moment that come flooding back.

Have you ever suddenly recalled nostalgic things when it’s raining, and felt that the scenery and sounds around you were a little distant? I really like that sensation and tried to capture it in the song.

It’s a sad song, but not just that: it conveys the sense of continuing to live in that place while bearing the burden of what has been lost.

07. “Navsegda”

This is one of the later songs on Soushitsu.

While it may sound like a lingering attachment to someone who has passed away, for me it’s more about wishing that person could live life in their own way now that they’re gone. We can’t stay together forever. Eventually, we all go our separate ways. Still, maybe someday we’ll end up in the same place again. “So it’s okay to live the way you want,”  that’s the message to listeners and to myself.
Navsegda‘ is Russian for ‘forever’. It doesn’t mean staying together forever; it’s more about the idea that even when we’re apart, the feelings and memories remain.

08. “Tsuzuri (ambient)”

I had been thinking about this ambient arrangement for a while, and it shows the worldview of Tsuzuri in a way that is different from the original song.

There’s also a new lyric line that wasn’t there in the original: “Kimi wa soko ni Tabidatte ne~soko wa Kirei ka na?

I wrote this while thinking about a musician friend who passed away around the same time. While the original ‘Tsuzuri’ is about feelings towards a lost loved one, the ambient version adds a more personal layer of real loss that has affected me directly.

2026/07/24 versions:

■ Tell us about “MONOLITH.”

“MONOLITH” is a single I created with the theme of “past memories” and “recollections.” Even though lost things or past events may feel as if they fade with the passage of time, I believe they never completely disappear; they continue to remain inside us in some form or another. Whether it’s an event, a person, or even a lover from that time, for better or for worse. I expressed the idea that “memories remain” as something like a monolith: something that simply continues to exist there, quietly.

Musically as well,  it’s quite ambient and ballad-oriented. Rather than expressing intense emotions, I aimed to create a strong sense of floating, as if drifting through memories.

https://linkco.re/ec2GMaAQ

Also, “MONOLITH” isn’t just music; it’s a work that included a clothing collaboration with TRICKS. Around this time, we started selling clothing as merchandise, and instead of using music alone to build the worldview, I began expressing the world through other forms such as clothing and visuals.

For me, ‘MONOLITH’ is more than just a song. It also became the driving force behind MSDV’s expansion into other areas beyond music. Collaborating with TRICKS led to us making connections with other multi-creators. It also introduced me to Giboshi-san, who still creates jacket designs for us and helps with video production and design. He is a very reliable companion.

■ Tell us about “Antei ni Kiyu”.

“Antei ni Kiyu -feat. yukiko-” was born from collaboration with two music friends who support MSDV behind the scenes: Kami-san and Yukiko-san.

The special thing about this song is the church-style chorus. Their multi-tracked voices create a unique atmosphere. We really focused on using reverb to build that sense of space. Mixing was done by Kami-san, a friend since high school. He’s a temple priest in everyday life, but he also makes DTM songs and plays them at temple events. He’s a funky, multi-talented guy!

https://linkco.re/8x7fQRpP

Yukiko-san is highly experienced in classical vocal music and has sung in churches across different countries. While making the song, we talked about the real echo she felt in those churches, shared ideas and tried different things.

I also struggled a lot with the reverb on my own vocals. In the end I felt the texture used in Ernstly Etienne’s “Hand of God (feat. David Funk)” was very close to what I wanted, so we used that as a reference.
This isn’t a song I made alone. We each brought our own experiences and feelings to create a shared space. I couldn’t have written this song on my own.

Kami-san: @wietff

■ Tell us about “THE PAST.”

“THE PAST”is a song themed around “recollection.”

It was created with the image of looking back on the past while drifting in a soft, hazy daze, thinking of the person who once lived inside oneself.

Sometimes, when we look back on the past, the memories, voices, and scenery of that time suddenly come flooding back; things we may not even want to remember. Yet no matter how much time passes and no matter how many tomorrows arrive, the future is not necessarily kind. An unreasonable future always awaits us. Nevertheless, we carry the memories and feelings left behind in the past, and we keep moving forward into the future. It is this feeling that I poured into this song.

Musically, it is built on an industrial worldview, with MSDV’s characteristic, strongly floating vocals layered on top. I think of memories as individual fragments; pieces that break apart yet continue to drift softly in place. That is the world this song tries to tell.

I mixed this song myself, spending a considerable amount of time agonizing over how to express the vocals that seem to well up from the depths of memory. This involved making decisions about the use of spatial effects and vocal technique.

The song originally appeared in 2023 on Generich’s compilation CD SYNERGY-symbiosis-.
It received a new digital release on August 1, 2026.
Alongside the re-release we’re running a charity project for the Kumamoto earthquake that hit on July 28, 2026. From August 1 to August 31, proceeds from both the compilation CD (available on the goods site) and the digital sales of “THE PAST” will be donated to the Reiwa 8 Kumamoto Earthquake Relief Fund.

A song about ‘looking back on the past’ that was born in 2023 is now being released into the world once more, in 2026.
Being able to connect it to someone’s future at this time feels like destiny to me.

■ Tell us about the upcoming single “Chain of addict,” planned for October.

Chain of addict” is scheduled for release on 19 October 2026, the first new song since the restart. 19 October is MSDV’s “birthday”, and this year marks the sixth anniversary, so we have chosen to release the song on that day.

Musically it shows a different side of MSDV. It’s centered on industrial sounds, but instead of going full-on aggressive, it creeps forward quietly and steadily. But there are still intense shouts and death growls added, revealing a more aggressive edge that hasn’t been as present before in the ambient and aesthetic worldview I created before.

Even though it’s MSDV’s 6th-anniversary, I’m going to show you a new world that’s different from what I’ve released before, so please look forward to it.

■ Any live plans?

On September 27, 2026, I will be holding my first live performance as MSDV at CleaveR Sound in Kitakyushu City. I have been given this opportunity thanks to an introduction by J/D, one of the performers as well. I am truly grateful.

This will be a visual kei-themed live event featuring eight solo artists.
As this is my first live show as MSDV, I am honestly feeling somewhat anxious about how well I can bring the world I have expressed through my recordings to life on stage. But, drawing on my experience of various music activities so far, I plan to consider aspects such as staging and makeup carefully, with the aim of creating a performance that fully expresses the world of MSDV.

I want to perform a live show where people can experience MSDV’s worldview in a different shape from the recorded music, so if you live nearby or are curious, I would be happy if you could come to enjoy the event.

■ How do you see the future of the solo project?

Until now I’ve mostly been active as an online creator and artist. After I fully restarted my project, I intend to continue being an only creator and artist while focusing on performing at events in the Fukuoka area.

As it’s a solo project, the expression will differ from that of a band, but I intend to carefully develop whatever is possible within that form. As well as the music, I hope to continue shaping the MSDV world through live performances, visuals, merchandise and more.

So, be sure to experience the world of MSDV for yourself at least once!.

■ A message for the readers?

First of all, thank you so much for reading all the way to the end.

In this interview I tried to explain in my own words what MSDV is. It’s been a while since I wrote something this long, so I’m not sure how well it came out (laughs).  There are probably parts where my choice of words falls short, but I’ll be happy if this gives you even a small sense of the kind of music and world that MSDV is aiming for.

Everything I’ve done up to now is by no means something I achieved on my own. Going forward I’ll keep relying on the support of many people, and I want to carefully cherish every connection while continuing to build the world of MSDV.

I just restarted, but I’d be grateful if you’d keep watching over MSDV.
Please continue to support “My Sweet Dreams【Visions】’.
