Interview with mikinormu

Yukako Love Deluxe (ex-BiSH) thank you very much for this interview!

Let’s start, with an self introduction, so please tell us a little bit more of yourself.

I am mikinormu.
I used to be in a band, but this is my first interview as a solo artist.
Nice to meet you.

Anyway we all have favorite Kanji characters isn’t? So how would you describe yourself with your favorite kanji character?

My favorite kanji is “easy (楽)”
It’s usually used in positive situations, and easier thoughts are more easy than thinking about hard/difficult things. It’s also the best to have fun thoughts. I try to remember this kanji when it’s surrounded me.

Everything has a reason, so what was the reason why you started playing music?

The reason why I started my current project Mikinoru is that I always liked this genre of music, and I thought it was the perfect way to start such gerne as a new project on my own.

Are there any artist which have influenced you during the years?

There is a lot of music that has influenced me. Since we live in an age where we can listen to music easily, I often get to know music without thinking about it and am influenced by it regardless of genre.

Are there any happenings which have impressed you so far?

I know that many people just listen to my music by downloading it, but I was really happy to see that there are still many people who order my CD’s directly for me to listen to them.

To write lyrics needs inspiration, so what inspires you to write lyrics?

When I write my lyrics, I try to keep in the mood of the song and not to get too emotional, so that I don’t ruin the actual mood of the song.

You have changed from guitar to electronic sounds. What was the trigger for this?

When mikinormu broke up as a band [ed. she continued solo], I was doing a little narration, I was thinking of various options, but the things I could do on my own were limited. So I switched to electronic sounds.

It would be kind if you could tell us your favorite song of mikinormu

I really like FILM NOIR which you can find on my album and I like Nightjoke and MY LOST SHOCK. I also do like the MV of Nightjoke and casper. Nightjoke is a film of Taiwan, viewed from a car, and the reverse replay of casper wandering through the alleys of Taiwan by myself. It was fun to make and match the videos with the music I create.

Earlier this year in April you released a new album named “GENIC”. Let’s talk a little bit more about this Album.

Are there any points in GENIC that you want people to pay attention to?

In between each song, there is a count and the hustle and bustle of the city.
“Huh? a silent moment?” But if you listen carefully, you can hear it. I hope that you will take time to enjoy it and to concentrate on the music, I added various arrangements which you can notice if you listen carefully.

Is there anything which you really enjoyed while working on “GENIC”?

I always feel excited when a song takes shape, not just for this album, but any song that comes to life. I also do like the time I spend on drawing the jackets.

Thank you for telling those points about GENIC.
Anyway let’s talk about some other various stuff.

Is there any music you listen to these days? Or is it just randomly?

I randomly listen to more and more indie western music. I feel like the range of music genres I listen to has expanded.

Do you have any favorite series you love to watch?

My favorite series is, Little House of the Prairie. It’s a good heartwarming series that reminds me of emotional and important things I’ve forgotten. I also admire Laura for her pure and yanky heart.

If you love to read, then what’s your favorite book?

My favorite books are those who 村田沙耶香(Sayaka Murata) writes.

A while ago you visited Taiwan. Are there other overseas countries which you would love to visit?

Well actually, I really would wish to visit Taiwan again. I really like the atmosphere of the buildings and the Taiwanese food. They have such delicious lunch boxes… So I definitely want to go again.

We all have our own beliefs and mottoes, could you tell us yours?

明鏡止水 (Meikyoushisui)

Literally, “clear mirror, still water.” Based on early Chinese Daoist concepts.

We came to the end, so please give a last message to your fans and readers.

I like to thank everyone who listens to my music.
We live in an era where you can listen to music on the internet easily, but I am also really happy that many people still order CD’s if I release them. I’m really thankful for your support! Please also support me in the future! Thank you very much!

Thank you again for this wonderful and interesting interview!
